TMS470 and ARM-JTAG cable.

Hi Guys, I’m looking for a microcontroller for a robot and I wanted to used an ARM part, I’m already familiar with IAR and just so happens that the university I work with has an ARM license but no ARM hardware whatsoever, since we already get free TI IC samples I was thinking I could use a TMS470 part for this project, However a TI sales representative told me that I need a J-Link (making clear it was the only way using iar)($199) to program and debug this device.

Of course I’m making my own research and so far I think it’s possible to program the TMS470s using the ARM-JTAG cable, IAR and the H-JTAG driver, but currently I have no HW means to test this out right now and was wondering if any of you guys have tested such set up before.

ARM-JTAG + H-JTAG + EW-ARM is working fine

Thanks!, Now gona try freescale’s i.MX as well hehe, those things have integrated color lcd, too bad the only packing available is BGA

You can program Atmel’s SAM7 parts with just a USB cable.
