Top Phat Display colors are inverted?

I am using a Top Phat DEV-16653 and a RPi 4. The OS version is 5.10. The display has a very bright background with black text. When I use programs like “fbi” to display images, the colors are inverted.

When examining kernel messages via “dmesg” I noticed the following error but I don’t know if it is relevant:

v3d fec00000.v3d: MMU error from client L2T (0) at 0x6c61000, pte invalid

As a test I tried using a RPi 3b+ and an older version of Raspberry Pi OS and the display worked as expected. However, for my project I need a solution for a RPi 4.

As another test, I tried the “archived” instructions for the RPi 4 but as expected, that did not work either. Is anyone able to get the display to work well with a RPi 4 running OS 5.10 ?

It could be a few things…double-check the cable/connectors and ensure they’re fully seated; it also may be due to the 5.1 version…can you update to a newer release and see if it still shows up?

It also might be a config setting, turn off overscan and perhaps try forced gl rendering?
