TrackerDuino

Hey Guys

About two years ago I started this project but never got it of the ground due to battery technology not ready yet , the first start up of the project can be seen http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic … msg1591038

I have now began my research again into this project. This time I would like to get the community involved and create an Arduino based DIY GPS tracker that we can all use.the basic principle behind the tracker is to assist in research on small game birds in South Africa, the outcome and success of the project would be documented and all contributors would be credited for there considerable contribution in the publication.

I have created a new home for the project, so if any of you are interested please take a look at this link for more information on the projecthttp://powerduino.blogspot.com/

First prototype board for testing the Arduino sleep library.this is just the first of many board on my way to the tracker.

Thank you

There is a lot of mistakes on that board. My advise would be to stop using Fritzing and go to a more robust CAD. Eagle, Atlium, KiCad, etc…

Hi Codlink

Thanx for the reply, I have noted the mistakes but im trying to support the underdog (fritzing) so they can become main stream.

for mass production the board will have to be redone in Eagle anyway.

Not to derail this thread but Fritzing has been around for awhile now and they still haven’t fixed the schematic portion. A board is useless without the schematic.

I used Fritzing when I first started PCB work and I must say I wished I hadn’t. When I went to Eagle, it was much harder to learn after Fritzing. Fritzing, IMO, just wastes time.

I see what you mean iv been going through few eagle tutorials and seems a lot harder now but i can see that it works better,I going to need help with my project atleast when it comes to the PCB design. project is very complex . any volunteers? lol

When you run into a problem or have a question (even in Eagle), start a new thread and ask away. Lot’s of members here have experience.

I understand about supporting a product, and Fritzing was on the right track, but they were not fixing the major bugs. After a year of using it, I gave up on them and moved to Eagle.
