Hello, I have recently purchased the UM980 GPS Module (SparkFun Triband GNSS RTK Breakout - UM980). I downloaded and installed the most recent CH340 drivers and upon connection to my PC via a USB cable the UM980 module powered up, but it did not respond/register as a USB device. Note I have Sparkfun RTK reference station which also has the CH340 Ser/USB and that does appear to connect successfully to my PC. Is this a faulty CH340 on this UM980 or is there something else I could try to connect to the UM980?
Try swapping USB ports (sometimes multiple CH340 enumerating form the same physical port can cause problems) and/or ensuring the full 5v is showing up @ the cable…any luck?
- So confirmed on USB power, I am seeing 5V (4.99V) on a 5V pin on the back of the UM980 board / I also see a 3.3V as well on another pin, so I assume USB power is okTS-Russell:

- Confirmed that I have swapped port. I also swapped USB connection to another PC (with loaded CH340 driver) with no difference on behavior, It is not recognizing the device/COM Port on the other machine.
Any additional steps that I should try?
No, it sounds like a defective ch340 - Was it purchased from us? If so head over to www.sparkfun.com/returns (contact vendor if purchased elsewhere) and we’ll get ya squared away
