Unusual battery connection

I don’t know where to find a battery like this one OR could I purchase a standard style LiOn with correct voltages etc use a battery holder to connect to the PCB instead?

Currently there is a cap that connects to the 2 pins on the battery with the red/black wire to the PCB

I think that might be a lithium ion supercapacitor which are sometimes used as a battery for low power devices. Batteries with radial leads are very uncommon.

Compare to this:

Thanks Brow, I had no idea!! Could I still use a lithium ion of similar spec and use a battery holder to re- wire?

If it makes you feel better, I only learned of these hybrid supercaps yesterday when researching your question.

My guess is that a standard battery could be used instead of the supercapacitor (if that’s even what it is) and that little round board. However, that’s no more than a guess and lithium ion batteries can be risky to experiment with. If this were my project, I’d start by setting a bench power supply to 3.7 VDC and make sure that your device can be powered going straight to the mainboard BATT+/- terminals. If it doesn’t, then I’d be nervous about moving to a standard battery.
