Just found this forum and bookmarked for future reference. Might come in handy when I have those crazy ideas of mine.
Anyways, I have a Gizmondo (yep of Swedish mafia fame). It has a passive antenna GPS receiver based on the GSP2e/LP and STGRF2i/LP chips. I have had some success, but I usually have problems with getting a lock and have been looking at possible solutions to improve the signal without having any external antennas or reradiating GPS, etc. I have tried using an active ceramic antenna but I could not notice an improvement. I am planning to reattempt and do some more testing however.
Right now I’m looking at the EM-408 module and would like to integrate this without excessive modification of the circuit board since I have never dealt with desoldering BGAs. If I can use the test points to figure out the location of the GPS data and relevant signals, would I be able to interface the new GPS module by simply soldering to those points while patching into the power supply? Thanks.
