How about an inline USB device that will display(some 7 segment displays) the current being used? This anyone using there USB port to power projects can monitor the power level. I started looking into making one using hall effect IC’s???

Is there any reason why you couldn’t just put a [0.1 ohm resistor in series with the 5V line and use a multimeter to measure the voltage across the resistor (multiply by 10 to get current)? that should leave your USB lines relatively clean without the need for a hall effect sensor.](http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=WSLJ-.1CT-ND)
