User Manual for RTK postcard and portability Shield

Hi, sorry if this is an obvious link, I’ve ordered the products in the title and am trying to do a bit of pre delivery research. I was just looking for a basic manual for the portability shield when connected to the postcard. I can find hookup guides, but not an operation manual detailing the options visible in the lcd, how to scroll the menus and make setting changes etc. is there a resource for this anywhere?

Thanks.

Hi Woody (@PLAN8 ),

The Postcard will come pre-loaded with our RTK Everywhere Firmware. The guide for that is below:

Hi Paul,

Thanks for that, I found that guide, but I think I might be being a bit dim, I seem to go around in circles trying to find more detail?

If the documentation is unclear, or needs more detail, or needs to be restructured, let us know and we’ll do our best to fix it.

Or, for extra points , you can update the documentation yourself and send us a “Pull Request”:

Hey, yeah, I thinks it’s probably me not knowing where to start looking as it’s two product combined, but was just looking for instructions on the shield really, how does it boot on in what state, how to use the joystick navigation and menu options, what the options do, what the display symbols represent etc. maybe I’m just not finding the document? Sorry!

Hi Woody (@PLAN8 ),

By default, the Firmware will start up in Rover mode.

The display symbols are described throughout the manual, but the Displays section is a good place to start.

The joystick menu navigation is a bit disjointed. Sorry about that. Again it’s sort of described throughout the manual. E.g. here for how to select WiFi Config mode; here for selecting BaseCast mode. We could do with a dedicated section for Postcard, with an animation like this one, showing how to select the different modes with the joystick.

Once you’ve got your hands on hardware, please let us know what other improvements we need to make. (My feeble excuse is that a lot of the time it’s the guys that write the code who also write the documentation… We’re so familiar with the code that we forget what it is like for users using it for the first time… Sorry!)

Best wishes,
Paul
