Using a servo to drive a toy train axle?

Hi! I’m pretty new at all this, but my kid and I are trying to figure out how to build a MicroBit controlled Brio-style train for wooden tracks. I’m curious if you have seen any examples of that. I haven’t been able to find any online.

For instance, is there a way that a single servo can be set up with gears to drive an axel with two wheels attached?

Also, do you have any suggestions for how best to create traction on the white plastic wheels that come with the servos? Is there some kind of variable-size rubber coating for those?

You might be able to fit a small rubber band around one of the round servo horns to do this. if that won’t work, you might be able to put a small pulley on the axel and another small pulley on the servo and then use a belt or rubber band between to connect the two. It might be a lot easier than trying to find small gears that mesh together.

Another thing you could try is to find a small motorized toy that’s about the same size and hack the gear train out of that and stick your train wheels on it.

We don’t carry any small pulleys or gears, you might check with [Servo City and [McMaster Carr for those.](https://www.mcmaster.com/)](https://www.servocity.com/)

Thank you! I’ll see what I can do
