Dear all,
I recently purchased a SparkFun LTE Stick (LARA-R6), which is based on the LARA-R6401 module designed for North America. As I am located in the Middle East, I require a global module such as the LARA-R6001 for compatibility with local LTE and GSM bands.
Could you please advise if it is possible to use the LARA-R6401 module in my region by uploading any specific firmware? Alternatively, would you recommend switching to the LARA-R6001 or LARA-R6001D for global coverage?
I read this paragraph: The LTE Stick LARA-R6 from SparkFun is based on the LARA-R6401 module, which is specifically designed for North America and may not support the LTE and GSM bands used in the Middle East. The LARA-R6001, on the other hand, is designed for global coverage and supports a broader range of LTE and GSM bands. LARA-R6401 provides an ideal LTE Cat 1 solution for North America.
I appreciate your assistance and look forward to your guidance.
You are right, the LTE Stick uses the LARA-R6401 which works with most major North American carriers (Verizon, TMobile, AT&T, etc…the 6001 is a different x-blox chip that we do not currently sell/carry
No, updating the firmware on the 6401 will not make it into a 6001; the chips differ internally https://www.u-blox.com/en/product/lara-r6-series
It doesn’t look like any retailers have put the 6001 on a breakout, but u-blox does sell an evaluation kit that has a 6001 included https://www.u-blox.com/en/product/evk-r6 that should work for ya
