v-pot / encoder with led ring around it

I’m looking for this:

http://www.mackie.com/products/hui/HUIvpot.html

I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks.

I made something like that at home for a project - I used a standard pot, an LM3916 and ten rectangular LEDs.

It was big and expensive though for something that just looked nice.

I’d imagine that the commercial versions would be a lot smaller but more expensive again.

I see no reason to believe that’s a single part that anyone sells; more likely it’s a standard rotary encoder, surrounded by a ring of rectangular LEDs, covered by a custom-molded piece of translucent plastic.

Lumex makes some curved LED bargraph arrays that might be a good start for making something similar; see, for example, http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea … 67-1524-ND.

If you wanted to swede this, maybe take a plain resistive potentiometer and put an LED out on an arm extending from the base of the shaft. Then cover with a disc of dark translucent plastic. Of course this removes all the advantages of the real thing, while preserving the same look.

This of course begs the question - which part of the device are you trying to achieve?

It looks like there are several aspects:

  • - The look.
  • - Using a rotary encoder instead of a pot.
  • - A rotary encoder that recalls it's value.
  • - The feedback of the value.
  • - Something else?
  • Any or all of these can be reproduced depending on how much you want to spend. It would appear that the actual device is proprietary and thus would not be available.

I’m trying to use a rotary encoder with the indicators so that the encoder can be used to adjust multiple parameters while the indicators indicate the value of the selected parameter.

Everyone thinks its just plastic and individual parts, eh? Damm i was hoping it was going to be some all in one unit.
