Venus GPS receiving gibberish

Hi we are a bunch of newbs and are having some problems communicating with the Venus GPS logger breakout board. We have the receiver hooked up and the NAV led is flashing but with the skytraq software all we seem to receive is gibberish. We also can not communicate with the receiver. We receive a time out error.

We have checked the serial rs-232 connection with a successful echo test over hyperterminal.

We also tried to use GPSBabel and recieve the error:

"gpsbabel -w -t -i skytraq -f COM26 -o nmea,gprmc,gpgga,gpvtg,gpgsa -F test1

Unsupported serial speed: 230400

Error running gpsbabel: Process exited unsucessfully with code 1"

Here are some pics of our general setup:

Any help appreciated

Here is an example of the NMEA Output file in txt format. Noticed different string lengths.

You need to do one of two things: Use a [level translator to change the CMOS levels of the Venus module to RS-232 levels that the PC expects; Use one of the [FTDI USB to Serial converters.
