Hi all, I just wanted to share a bit about a Children’s museum that I built several pieces using sparkfun gear.
Probably the most involved and the least known is the moon sculpture. It’s been a year, so I’m a bit lax on the details, but I used two time of flight sensors on the ceiling, the ones that do an 8x8, connected to an Artemis Thing, to track the position of people below. The moon has three dimmable LED flood-lamps in it that are controlled by a trailing edge AC light dimmer from eBay. I know that dimmer thing seems like an odd choice but it was the simplest solution to output the amount of light that I needed.
There are also these “flowers” that the artist I was working for designed. They are wooden cutouts. I glued a loop of wire on the backside to a 1M resistor (I think, probably, it was a high number). I used the Arduino capacitive sense library turned up to 11 to sense hoomans. We strung a loop of 5v LEDs around the backside of the flowers to make the pretty flickering lights.
