WAV Trigger with 9V power supply

I have a project that will run for 2 - 3 month, 10 - 12 hours a day.

I power my wav trigger with 9V power supply. I already notice that the regulator become hot. Is it fine? I should be ok with powering the WAV trigger with 9V power supply for so long?

In the hookup guite it written that: “any input voltage between 6V and 15V” So 9V should be fine ?

The WAV Trigger uses a LM1117 voltage regulator which is going to dissipate heat as it drops voltage. This is typical for a voltage regulator and they can get warm and even hot to the touch depending on how much voltage they are dropping and how much current is going out.

We have been carrying the WAV Trigger designed with the LM1117 voltage regulator for over 6 years and I can safely say that I have not seen any issues with overheating under normal operating conditions(9v qualifies). That being said, if you are concerned about long term heat dissipation you could install a heat sink on top of the regulator. That should help considerably.

Something small like this should do nicely along with some thermal adhesive(we don’t carry any):

Thanks for your replay!

If you’re able to use a 6 volt power supply rather than 9 volts, that will greatly reduce the amount of heat the board produces. Less heat = longer board life.
