weather:bit not logging data with battery pack

Hello, we are conducting a weather unit where we are using the weather:bit and the climate kit to record weather data in our environment. When we power the micro:bit using a USB connected to a computer, we have no issues logging and collecting data, but once we switch to the battery pack (2xAAA) provided in the kit, the LED display of the micro:bit turns on, but the indicator lights for the OpenLog doesn’t flash and no data is recorded. Is there not enough power from 2xAAA batteries to power the entire climate kit?

We’re looking for solutions. Thank you!

Hello!

I had the same issue a few days ago. The micro:bit + weather:bit + OpenLog would log data when powered by USB but not with 2xAAA batteries. The micro:bit works but the OpenLog flashes blue repeatedly and no data is logged. Then I tried using two new AAA batteries and it did work. I guess this might solve your immediate issue. But the problem is that with these two new batteries I was only able to log for about 10hours before I ran into the same problem. The script I used was logging every two minutes and I was able to get 403 data points. I’m currently experimenting with alternatives to improve on this. My guess is that the OpenLog requires 3.3v to work while the Micro:bit will work down to 2.7v. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in.

Best

Any solutions on this issue? I was troubleshooting this issue and found this post.

I am about to put up a micro:bit weather station and would like to know if anyone discovered a workaround to have the microclimate kit log data in the field.

Thanks.
