I’m working on a robot that has several IR detectors. There will be 8 of these detectors, with 4 wires to each detector. That comes to 64 crimp connections by hand! I would prefer to have someone else make those cables.
Does anyone have a good source for buying eight to sixteen 1’ or longer cable assemblies?
Well, either you’ll be crimping them by hand or paying someone else $40-odd an hour to crimp them… Even if it takes you a whole minute to crimp each wire, that’s only a little over an hour of your time. Also, if you have a crimping tool (the Molex ones aren’t that expensive, but make sure you don’t end up forking over $1500 for a tool) it makes life a lot easier.
As for buying cables pre-made - you haven’t specified what connector is on either end so I can’t help you without knowing. IR detectors sounds like Sharp IR rangefinders - if that’s what you mean then you can buy the JST cable assemblies pre-made from somewhere like Acroname.
