I am trying to set up a wireless video transfer from a camera to a tivo.
A little background…The camera is used for filming swimmers. there needs to be a range of about 30 yards or so, and the connection that we have setup includes a long RCA video cable from the camera to the tivo. we use the tivo to record and then critique the swimmer’s technique. The athlete can then watch his mistakes and better understand how to correct them. The cord is starting to get annoying, and I am wondering if there is a good economical solution.
Since you’re using a TiVo, a 900MHz or 2.4GHz wireless video setup would work. Most of your readily available commercial units are somewhat directional, however. These usually aren’t too bad. I’ve picked up a separate mini-cam and RCA jack “1.2GHz” RF link, but the image will probably be too fuzzy for your uses (could just be the camera, though).
If someone is walking with this, that idea is probably a no-go, especially since you’d need another mount and power source for the RF unit.
The camera is mounted to the bottom of a pvc pipe that can be dropped into the water from a cart the can roll along the pool deck as the swimmer swims. We have the battery for the camera on the cart already, but there is a lot more room on the cart to put stuff. Does that help at all?
