Parallax provides two different Propeller programmers. One, the PropClip clips on the the side of a PCB and the PropPlug which uses a female header to mate with a 4-pin male header. The problem is that if you are doing any breadboard work, you are stuck with the PropPlug, although the Clip version is better to program production runs (less components needed, just 4 VIAs and traces).
What this is, is a simple PropClip to plug converter. Each one is a single-sided .5" x .5" board. A 90° 4-position female header would be soldered on the end of each. If sold as a kit, a 90° male header would be included (loose, not soldered to the board) for breadboarding. I figure that if a full production blank is used, the production cost each would be in the sub-$2 range.
I seriously doubt this will get much interest from Parallax (they should have included something like this with the PropClip and skipped the PropPlug, but I digress…), but the freeware version of Eagle prevents me from doing a production run myself. If I did it with the freeware version’s 4"x3" board limitation, I would have to charge in the range of $5 each and would just break even. Not to mention doing so would violate the freeware license agreement with Eagle.
Any thoughts? If interested, I can provide the Eagle board file.
