XBee Communication with different modules

Hi all, i have a question. Im building a small project and i am wondering if two different xbee modules can be used and still communicate with each other.

In my case im trying to use the XBee-PRO 900 RF module and connect it to a PC via USB.

Then use a 2.4GHz XB24-BSIT-004 module which is XBee 2mW Series 2.5 Wire Antenna for my system.

The PC will just be sending data to my system, but data will not be send back to the PC. In other words there will not be any communication exept when the computers just send the signal.

Will this two different Xbee module communicate with no problem??

Not those two modules as they are using completely different frequencies. One is on 900MHz the other is on 2400MHz.

see

and

all right so as long it has the same frequency they can communicate.

Also does the Xbee Pro 900 has the same configuration as the Xbee 2.5 series with the X-CUT software from digi??

Having two modules on the same frequency is the first part. The second part is that both modules MUST be running the same communications protocols.

Such as: both are ZNET 2.5 or both 802.15.4 or both DigiMesh. A module running ZNET can’t communicate with a DigiMesh module.

Check Digi International’s web site for the different protocols available. Their X-CTU untility can communicate with any of their modules, with an adapter board, and can write a different firmware into modules that can change the protocol.

Be very careful when selecting Digi modules as there is much confusion with the way they name the modules. A phone call to Digi is your best bet if you are unsure of what you have and what you need.

Thanks… waltr

Beware the difference between XBee Series 1 and Series 2. Use the latter only if you wish to to ZigBee mesh networking. Series 1 can use simple peer to peer networking or Digi’s own meshing.
