xbee x24 .vs xbee x24-b

Hello all.

This might be a stupid question but I need an answer to it. So here it is. I have 3 xbee x24 modules. I have tried over and over and over and jumping off buildings and over. to get these things to talk. So i have two sender unites. Do I need some supper kind of extra bad ass xbee that sends data.

The part number on XBees is a bit confusing. My information says that an X24 is a Series 1 hardware and the X24-B is a Series 2 hardware. These run different Protocols and are NOT compatible.

Series 1s run either straight 802.15.4 or Digi Mesh whereas the Series 2s run ZigBee or ZNet2.5. None of these four protocols will talk to each other.

The best indicator is the Firmware Version so connect them to your PC through an RS232 or USB interface and read the Firmware version with X-CTU using the ‘Test/Query’ button. Post the Version numbers here and we’ll tell you what they are.

Sweet I got it running. had the TX and RX hooked up wrong. hahahahha… ME’sa smart Thanks for the info though. I am glad to know that v.1 and v.2 are different.
