XBee flow control setup, is it DTE or DCE?

Hi everyone,

I’m mocking up a PCB and need to use flow control(RTS, CTS) for a series 1 XBee. I’m just wondering if the XBee → PC is considered DTE or DCE, that is, do I cross the CTS pin over to RTS on the DB9 and same with the RTS → CTS? I’m using a MAX3232 for this project, and want to go from XBee to PC on both ends, but would like to have one module perhaps connected to a spa/pool controller via RS232.

Also, I’d like to have extended range on this unit, so I was thinking about soldering a wire with a UFL connector on it, which goes via PCB trace to an SMA connector, to see how XBee goes with larger antennas and boosters, etc. Any special considerations here?

Cheers!

Xbee Pro has 60mW and much longer range than the non-PRO XBee. However, 60mW is not legal in some countries.

Xbee can be ordered with a coax connector on the board.

Flow control: As I recall, XBee with the wireless serial port extension firmware toggles CTS for flow control.
