It is possible that it is stuck in a unresponsive mode or the Baud rate got changed.
On X-CTU’s PC Settings tab try even baud rate with a Test/Query (always should be the first test to try). Be sure the Enable APT box is appropriately checked/un-checked for your module.
I had to do this with a module and did find the baud rate it was set to.
Check in the PC’s device manager first to be sure that at least the USB shows up. If there’s no USB then you would be able to connect to the module.
If the USB is good and none of the baud rates work. then you could try re-flashing the unit from X-CTU. Here is a method to try on unresponsive XBee’s:
When I connect it into computer via USB, whenever I type any command in XBee Config Terminal, it always has feedback of “Can’t enter Command Mode”
I have tried resetting using X-CTU, but I still couldn’t get it working
I just wonder if there is anyway to fix this issue ?
Thanks in advance
with series 1, I have de-bricked many. A few, I had to call Digi tech support for the secret sauce. But they have always come through. I can’t help you with series 2 - no experience.
I have 2 dead series 2s from just putting them in a basic 3.3v system when it had a slightly noisy power supply.
Digi have suggested the normal to de-brick it, but that doesnt work for either. I’m reading a lot lately about these damn series 2 modules dying on people and none of them are able to repair them. Beginning to wish I didnt spend £100s on them now.
If you want to try and reflash it (which didnt work for me) do the following:
Get the RS232 dev board presuming you have one. Leave the power unplugged and put the Xbee in and the cable to the PC.
Open XCTU and select No Baud Change, 9600-8-1-No Parity, make sure Enable API is NOT checked. Go to the last tab and select a firmware you want to flash it with. Select Always update firmware, then click Write (still with power unplugged.
It will pop up with the warning message.
Now usually the recommended procedure is to hold the reset button and plug in the power to get the message to go, and it should re-program. This didnt get rid of the message for me, what I had to do was plug the power in without the reset pressed, then remove the power again, and THEN hold the reset and plug the power in. This got rid of the message but mine still failed to flash.
