Xbee Series 1 being Discontinued?

I recently bought some Xbee 802.15.4 Series 1 modules, then got a vendor notification that they’re being obsoleted. Does anybody know the skinny on this? Is the 802.15.4 Pro also involved? Thanks for any help.

I haven’t heard that from Digi.

I ask this every few months and they reaffirm.

But, who knows… It’s been in production many, many years to suit those that don’t need/want ZigBee, which has been most.

check with the vendor re part number confusion.

The XBee Series 1 modules are not being discontinued however the Series 1 with the chip antenna is. It is being replaced by a much higher performing fractal PCB antenna! The Digi P/N for these new modules are:

  • Series 1 802.15.4 w/PCB Antenna: XB24-API-001

  • Series 1 802.15.4-PRO w/PCB Antenna: XBP24-AWI-001

By the way, there’s a handy page on Digi’s site for finding info on the XBees: http://www.digi.com/xbee/

Coolestkind! Thank you so much.

Yes, the Series 1 is a big product line for Digi and very much alive, which is why you’re seeing new antennas and so forth. Expect it to be around for quite some time to come.

Dear OP: please consider revising the thread’s title.
