ZED-F9T/GPS-18774 Firmware update

Hello, I recently purchased a “SparkFun GNSS Timing Breakout” (ZED-F9T/GPS-18774) and was curious if I could obtain an updated firmware image for it.

P/N: ZED-F9T-00B-01 (The newer version “ZED-F9T-00B-02” comes with TIM 2.20)

F/W: TIM 2.01

uBlox has released TIM 2.20 (UBX-21050800/January 10th 2022) and the ZED-F9T documentation has been updated for this new firmware version. For whatever reason they have not released the file publicly (uBlox form posts seem to somewhat confusingly indicate release from uBlox requires an NDA (it’s just a GPS module and the F9P file is available…) and customers should seek the update through the manufacture of the product containing the module.)

I purchased the module from Amazon but if required will provide proof of ownership (serial number, order number, etc.)

I wasn’t aware u-blox had released a new firmware for the ZED-F9T, but they do release new firmware fairly regularly. I’m not sure why they are requiring an NDA to obtain the firmware but, unless you can find it on the internet, we can’t post it without violating our own NDA with u-blox. I recommend contacting u-blox and your field applications engineer at u-blox. They’ve been very helpful and responsive any time I’ve reached out.

Alright, I was thinking they wanted it distributed via closed channel (like a private message or email) but I will go ahead and reach out to them directly. I do not have a contact at u-blox so I will try their general support forum.

I did open a support case but they closed it and asked me to fill out a project form which I am doing.

TIM 2.20 is for the L1/L5 version of the ZED-F9T / LEA-F9T

There are differences in the RF path, ie Band Splitter / SAW Filter, and this firmware will not work successfully on the older L1/L2 models.

There might be newer versions now which work in either mode of operation, but this wasn’t the case with devices prior to Jan 2022.
