2nd pyboard purchased from sparkfun in 9 months. Worked fine for 4 days in same circuitry as 1st pyb. While idling all leds went out and found that there was no 3.3v then tried re-powering by both usb and then vin at 5v.
Need a replacement pyboard asap as this is a project for my son. I am a retired EE.
Pyboard is controlling an aquarium smart hood lighting system.
3 adc temp sensors. Also using 3.3 v pwm outputs driving 3 mosfets driving led light strips. Also 3 pwm fans via pyb outputs.
Also an 2.8" lcd display over spi snd i2c capacitive touch. The current reqirements of this are well below 250 mA the pyb supplies on 3.3V
Pyboard can be returned. Only screwdown wiring headers have been soldered to this pcb. Have been driving this circuitry with a pyb purchased in Jan 19. order # for that one was 5399855. Removed circuitry from stack headers and applied to screwdown headers so i know pyb can run everything… And it was till it quietly lost 3.3V on board. No apparent stress to any components on pyb.
OK, I’m not sure what caused the failure, but I can replace the board for you. We’ve not had any other reports of voltage regulator failures on these boards and since we don’t make these, I don’t have details on what parts were used or how they are configured.
I’m sending a new board, but if the replacement fails, I’m afraid I won’t be able to replace it again and I’d suggest contacting MicroPython.org to see if their hardware team is able to help troubleshoot what might be causing the failures.
