Ahh! Can't edit board in Eagle!

Hey,

Ok, I installed Eagle on my new Macbook Air (yay!) and everything went great. I put in a simple schematic I’m working on to function in conjunction with an Arduino. Because of this I need to create holes to connect the circuit to the Arduino. When I got my basic schema in I added a couple holes then tried to connect them to the circuit by “Establish electrical connection” (btw, what’s the difference between this and “Wire”? Sorry, 1st PCB). When I try this I get “Cannot backannote! Please do this in schematic!”. How do I fix this?

Thanks!

You have to create electrical connections in the schematic. If you then go back to the board and hit the ratsnest button you should see the connection pop up. To actually put traces on the board, you need to use the ‘route’ tool. The wire tool is the generic ‘line’ tool.

A hole is just a hole. There’s no electrical connection, and no solder pad around it. The SparkFun library has all the .1" headers you could want. Use those for creating a row of holes.

It may be really helpful to work through the tutorials, Other than the default Mac color being white, it worked really well.

It is the embedded electronics tutorial 8 and 9:
