An abnormal noise is coming from the helical planetary gear reducer used in the AGV drive wheel.

Hello everyone,

The helical planetary gear reducer (https://www.oyostepper.com/category-199-b0-Helical-Planetary-Gearbox.html) used in the AGV drive wheel makes a metallic “click” sound from the gearbox when starting and braking, but the noise disappears when the vehicle is running.

I’ve checked the coupling and motor shaft, and they’re not loose. I suspect it might be due to the backlash of the helical gears causing an impact during acceleration and deceleration when they reverse direction. But the sound is too obvious; it doesn’t sound like normal meshing.

Are there any experts who make mobile robot chassis? Do your planetary gearboxes make this sound during acceleration and deceleration? Or is this backlash unavoidable in helical gear structures?

Thank you for all your help.

If you apply a direction and then re-apply that same direction is the noise reduced? If so it’s likely backlash/gear slop

Can you make the torque curve more gradual and see if that helps?
