An easier description of building the heart monitor

I’m currently working on assembling your heart monitor kit, and I’m really excited about the project—but I’ve run into a few issues I could use some help with.

I’ve been following the instructions provided, but I’m having trouble understanding how to properly connect the wires to the board. The steps aren’t entirely clear to me, and I’m unsure about the correct placement and orientation of the components. I want to make sure I’m doing everything safely and accurately, but right now I’m stuck.

Would you be able to clarify the wiring setup or point me to any diagrams, videos, or additional resources that might help? I’d really appreciate any guidance you can offer.

Thanks so much for your time and support—I’m looking forward to getting this heart monitor up and running!

Hello, which particular tutorial are you following? Any link?

I am doing AD8232 Heart Rate Monitor Hookup Guide - SparkFun Learn

The placement is just a bit further down in the link you sent

i’m talking about the jumper wires and the straight header and where i need to put them on the breadboard.

Did you not see this Fritzing diagram in the “learning guide”?

Is it how to connect the header pins to the board? Those need to be soldered onto the board for it to work.

If you don’t know how to solder, you might see if you can find someone that knows how who can do that step for you.

Or, you can get some scrap boards and follow youtube videos to learn how to do it and once you’ve had some practice, then solder the header pins to the heart monitor board and the arduino board.

I wouldn’t attempt soldering your heart monitor and arduino boards without any practice, you might end up damaging them.

Header pins and a solderable breadboard are good for practice. Links to those are below.

is there a video of anyone assembling the device? i don’t understand what the green dots mean and the set of jumper wires it told me to buy doesn’t have the black wires and the length of the wires aren’t the same as the one i bought. i also dont understand how the jumper wires connect the heart monitors overall function. the instructions aren’t very clear and it has me follow a diagram without telling why im doing something or how to do it.

Wire color does not matter, nor does length (up to a point). The wire connections are completely determined by circuit theory and the precise functions of the individual boards you are connecting.

This is a technical hobby, and since you seem to be starting from absolute zero, you should expect many, many challenges. Try to find some personal guidance in your local area. Maker Clubs or Maker Spaces are found in many medium to large cities, and they welcome newcomers.

Failing that, there are plenty of Youtube tutorials showing how to assemble simple circuits on breadboards. Try something much simpler than the heart rate monitor (e.g. blink an LED), and work your way up.
