We recently purchased a sparkfun RTK Facet unit. Since we are a research lab, we intend to have several individuals use the GPS. Some of us have androids, some of us have iOS. In the quick start guide, the directions to use the iOS is to connect via wi-fi and change the bluetooth settings to Bluetooth LE. I would imagine this disengages the normal bluetooth for androids, but please confirm that assumption. We did some wi-fi exploration on my android, and it appears the process works in reverse, just changing the Bluetooth back from LE to SPP from the configuration menu. Before we make any configuration changes we just want to confirm that this is the proper method and that swapping back and forth shouldn’t create any useage issues.
The Facet works with iOS, but only with BLE and only (really) in SW Maps. Sounds like you’ve got all that. BLE also works on Android, but again really only with SW Maps.
If you’re only using SW Maps as your data collection app, then leave Bluetooth in BLE mode. If you have a few Android users using other GIS apps then most of them will require SPP and you’ll have to swap back and forth between Bluetooth types.
As a side note: the RTK Facet is our older generation that doesn’t have PSRAM. Our newer models (TX2, FP, etc) do have PSRAM so they are able to broadcast BLE and SPP simultaneously. Additionally, the newer models are MFi certified which means they work with iOS natively instead of being limited to BLE. Just something to consider in the future.
Yes, this is the workflow to switch to/from iOS/Android for the Facet. You can save a Profile for each OS to make life a little easier. I think you can tap the User Button on the Facet and use the OLED screen to swap between profiles quickly (IIRC).
