Arduino compatible RFID w/ 1 meter range??

I’m trying to find an Arduino Uno compatible RFID reader that has a range of 2-3 feet with a keychain tag. Does this product exist? I want to attach the tag to my dog’s collar and have an actuator open a lid when the dog is 2-3 feet a way. I need the longer range because it will be difficult to teach them to stand in an exact spot a couple inches from a reader.

Thanks for the help!

Alignment and RFID are really two different things. I suppose if your alignment requirements are +/-2m, a 1m range would work. Any RS232 reader should work with Arduino & for your knowledge I have also put a link where you can get the product.

Thanks I hope it help you out. Good Luck.

Thank you for the reply! Can you please repost the link to the product you are recommending? The first one does not work

We carry our [Simultaneous RFID Reader and with an external antenna, 1 meter range shouldn’t be to hard to get. We don’t carry small ‘dog tag’ style RFID tags, but any EPCglobal Gen 2 tag will work. [Atlas RFID Store would probably have a tag that would work for you.](Search Results | atlasRFIDstore)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14066)

Chris,

Thanks for the response! That is a little pricier than I was wanting to spend on a homemade dog feeder. Is there anything at a lower price point that will do the job? Also, what antenna would you recommend for this application?](Search Results | atlasRFIDstore)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14066)

Unfortunately long range RFID is quite expensive and we don’t carry anything less expensive. The antenna we carry for our board is part number [WRL-14131 and our [hookup guide goes over how to use both the board and antenna.](Simultaneous RFID Tag Reader Hookup Guide - SparkFun Learn)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14131)
