Hi, I am looking for some idea/support to repair the carrier board after I reversed the polarity while preparing a weatherproof case for it. A little puff of smoke and that’s it! sniff
- Is a replacement board available? Alternative suggestions I have other ESP32 processors.
- How can I test the board to check what is blown for replacing the part - is it doable?
- Where can I get parts if 2 above is possible.
Any help will be appreciated.

- If you’re handy with a DMM you can test the pins/legs of the APC chip here
according to the schematic https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/6/c/2/e/2/MicroMod_Weather_CB-Schematic.pdf , though if you saw smoke you can essentially guarantee that it will be this part that needs replacing
Here’s the full part # AP7361C-33FGEUDFN-8
Thanks, I have carried out the measurements and there is an issue. The 3,3V side is down to 0.684V , including at the MEAS post. The 5V side indicates 4.95V with the USB powered up.
I assume that this indicates that the APC Chip is blown. I have attached a photo of the board as well as the circuit diagram showing where I did the measurements. I was a bit tight to measure directly on the side of the APC chip! so, I did the next best thing.
Please confirm that I have read the points correctly. If I need to measure the PINs on the chip, I will need a very much smaller probe - which I can get, just do not have.
If this is positively identified as the issue, could you please indicate how we replace the APC Chip once I get it.
Thanks again.
Yep
The main thing to note when replacing is to ensure the dot on the chip is aligned with the dot on the board (I circled both in pink). This how to tell if the orientation is correct
Thank you, I have been busy with the rest of my life so did not get to respond earlier.
I appreciate the assistance and will make contact again if there are other issues.
