Atmel AVR JTAG and AVR-MT-128 problems

Hi,

I have an original Atmel AVR JTAG

which I have been using with STK500 + STK501

I have verified that I am able to connect to a Atmega128 in the STK501 with the JTAG.

But I have problems connecting to a Olimex AVR-MT-128 board. I have

tried to power them both from the Atmel AVR JTAG and the Olimex AVR-MT-128 board.

There is a jumber on the AVR-MT-128 which selct between

J(tag?) and I(CSP) which was in the J position when I got it. I have tried it

in both positions and also tried to remove it, without success.

Have anybody else tried to use an Atmel AVR JTAG with the Olimex

board ?

Any idea what can be wrong ?

Regards

Arne

There is a strange symphom I see.

By powering the Olimex AVR-MT-128 and letting it power the Atmel AVR JTAG

I see the example code start up and display “AVR-MT-128” in the LCD display, and the 2 of the 3 leds is turned on on the AVR JTAG.

After a while the display of the AVR-MT-128 turns off, and there is no action

when pushing the buttons. This is without the AVR Studio running.

It looks like the JTAG resets the MT-128

If I flip the switch on the JTAG to make it self powered, the AVR-MT-128 is started up again, but disappear if I flip it back to taking power from target.

The powersupply I am using is 12V 500mA

If I try to start up AVR Studio wile the MT-128 is alive, I see a sjort blink in the communication led of the JTAG

It is working now, I had to power both the JTAG and the AVR-MT-128 from it’s own powersupply. Is this a standard feature, or is it just my AVR-MT-128 ?

This is working with my STK501…
