BatchPCB questions.

Ok, I’ve submitted my designs (2) and I get the ‘waiting for panelization’ status; good. But, when do I know for sure my boards have been accepted and what are the other status indicators that I get, any? Maybe I should wait and see, but it’s my fist order and I’m really eager to see REAL PCBs-- or at least know where they are in the process.

Thanks,

Mark

On Monday, they’ll be “Panalized” into an order and that’ll be sent to the board house. I believe a run-down of the entire process is noted in the BatchPCB FAQs. Although, if I remember right, the statuses are:

  • “Awaiting Panalization”

  • “Panalized”

  • “Shipped”

The project will be spending most of it’s time as “Panalized” since this seems to include the time from sent to the board-house, received from the board-house, and sent to you.

I asked the same question to the SFE folks, and yes, ‘Panelized’ also includes time spent being fabbed and shipped back to SFE from the fab house. As soon as SFE gets it and packages it up to send to you, the status changes to ‘Shipped’.

My last order was panelized on Nov 6, shipped from SFE to me on Nov 20, and received on Nov 22. My current order was panelized on Nov 27, so I’m expecting it around Dec 15ish (holiday projects!).

Craig,

Sounds interesting! Are these projects to do during the holiday break or projects related to the holidays?

I’m pacing back and forth here waiting for my holiday lights project PCBs to arrive. (Actually, I’m not really pacing - there’s a lot of infrastructure to assemble for our decorations each year, so I took today off work).

This year I have a new project. A 32 channel controller that will run a light show with sixteen mini christmas trees (two channels each) and will fill our front lawn.

This is now way off topic - PM me if anyone is interested. I’ll post here when the BatchPCB materials arrive and report on their quality and delivery time (both have been good in the past).

Comments Welcome!

Well, they’re not holiday related, just things to work on over the holidays. They are a bunch of circuits for Model Railroad applications - Reflective IR detector, switch motor controller, and some other goodies. I’ve been tinkering with them for the last 4 years and finally have an excuse to get them built. So far anything I need for Christmas I can buy at the store!

Craig,

If you have PIX of your handiwork (or would like to share schematics, PCB details, firmware/software) please post to the Spark Fun BBS Projects section. It’s always interesting to see what other creative minds have come up with.

Like many kids I had a OO/HO scale electric train set. My father put quite a bit of effort into a layout that took all of our family dining table when set up. That was long before the days of microcontrollers, micro electronics, even LEDs!!

As a young adult I met someone who had helped his kids ‘automate’ their trains with (drum roll please) relay logic. The kind with clunky open frame relays. Talk about “hard wear”…

Yesterday I got one BatchPCB stuffed but not powered up yet, the second PCB is lost in FedEx somewhere as of today. These will power my 2006 Holiday Lights projects. I’ll post more details over on the Projects thread.
