SparkFun Blynk Board IOT Starter Kit - ESP 8266 - First Time Using It
So I tried to follow the normal method of scanning the code, following the directions and connecting to the boards wifi but when I return to the app, nothing happens. It just keeps telling me to open my wifi settings and connect to the app. I did it numerous times, reinstalled the app, same issue. The closest i’ve gotten was the purple LED step.
I tried the first alternate provisioning method of using my PC and going to the Blynkboard’s ip address. When I put in my Auth token it told me that the token is in the wrong format. I tried this method twice with new projects/tokens and each time it was the same telling me the format doesn’t match what’s expected. The tokens were copied exactly from the email and I double checked them.
I didn’t try method 2 (terminal) yet because i didn’t want to install software on the pc i was using at the time. And method 3 of using the phone seems the exact same as method 1 so I haven’t tried that either.
I wanted to see what you had to say about this auth token not working before I try these other two steps because it seems like something isn’t right here. Any other suggestions?
Hi mike6545,
What type of WiFi network are you on when you’re trying to connect to the Blynk App? The Blynk board does not work on WPA & WPA2 Enterprise networks that you have to log in to through a web portal or something similar. If you’re just on a home network with standard security, try going through the [Troubleshooting Steps from Blynk’s documentation page.
If you’re still having trouble after that, let us know and we can troubleshoot further.](Introduction | Blynk Documentation)
Hi, I am having the same issue. Something seems to be wrong with the Blynk app. Here’s the deal:
-
Bought two Blynk Boards from DigiKey.
-
Opened Board #1, opened the Blynk app (already installed on my iPhone).
-
Scan the SFE QR code that came with Board #1, zebra app opens and takes me to the provisioning page.
-
Connect to the Blynk board’s WiFi network. RGB LED on Blynk board flashes purple.
-
Return to the Blynk app once connected to the Blynk board’s Wifi network.
…aaaaand nothing. The app never realizes it’s connected to the board. Never advances. Not possible to move on and finish the configuration.
So, I take out Board #2 and repeat steps 1-5 above. Same issue. Can’t advance beyond the app waiting.
Tried uninstalling and re-installing the Blynk app on my phone.
Have scanned and re-scanned both QR codes so many times now, they are both invalid.
Still don’t have any working boards.
- Tried connecting directly to the board via a web browser (192.168.4.1). App won’t issue a token for the board, so it’s not possible to enter the token to complete the manual provisioning.
VERY frustrating. Spent about 2 hours with these boards tonight.
I don’t want to connect the board to my computer, install or update any software, or upload any Arduino code. These boards should work out of the box in a zero-config environment-- that’s the promise of the Blynk framework.
Seems others are having this issue. What is going on, and what can you do to help get thee boards working?
