My team is looking to integrate the BMV080 Bosch sensor into a project, which Sparkfun has a Qwiic Devkit for. We are looking to modify the Sparkfun enclosure design for the sensor and 3D print the plastic parts ourselves, but we don’t have an easy solution to obtain the optical cover. Would Sparkfun be able to sell us just the optical cover piece of their enclosure, or tell us where they sourced the material for it?
The blurb here make me think it is glass Hardware Assembly - SparkFun Air Quality PM1/PM2.5/PM10 Sensor - BMV080 (Qwiic) Hookup Guide
Thanks for your quick response! Is there any way we could get a link to the product that the small piece of glass used in the optic assembly was cut from? We’ve used the sparkfun kit extensively and would like to keep any data that our sensors collect compatible by retaining the same transparency and refractive index of the glass used by sparkfun! It would also save us a lot of trial and error with different manufacturers and products to find one that works reliably!
I’ll ask around and see what I can find, hang tight!
It looks like I don’t have raw specs for what we’re currently receiving but it conforms with pg 23-24 of the datasheet
The main takeaways:
Hardened glass (gorilla glass 6)
Optical cover thickness d 0.3 ≤ 0.8 mm
Optical window width ≥ 1.4 mm
Tilt angle ≤ 4 degrees
Clearance between the top of the BMV080 lens and the bottom of the optical cover 0.2 +/- 0.1 mm
Refractive index 1.45 – 1.77 for – = 850 nm
Transmissivity > 90 % for an angle of incidence of 30 , P-polarization, wavelength = 850 nm
