board outline specification

As said in the previous post, I’m using PADS for layout, just to make my life difficult.

How can I specify my board’s outline? The DRC bot doesn’t ask for/recognize the outline.pho artwork file in my ZIP, so the preview just expands to fit everything in silkscreen and copper. Part of the silkscreen (a connector outline, no copper) extends beyond where I want the outline to be, causing the preview to be wider than the desired outline.

Should I just include the board outline on the top silkscreen layer to make it clear where the outline should be?

Thanks again. Hopefully this will be my last stupid question…

Greetings Chastings,

I’m not a PADS jackey - so not much specific help here. I think BatchPCB requests an outline drawing to define the PCB edge, and this is typically the top silk screen “largest X” and “largest Y” dims.

Therefore you can do something similar (by merging the PADS outline with the top silk or creating a new layer for the outline only) and resubmit your design to the Bot.

Also, you can submit a standard drawing file (or place text in the comments box) and let BatchPCB staff decipher the request. (I’ve had good results doing this for PCBs with outline routes beyond a four-sided rectangle.

Comments Welcome!
