Can HX711 be used to amplify an s-type tension load cell?

I am working on designing a tensioning board, for which I am thinking of using an S-type load cell so as to constantly monitor the tension added within the system.

I am looking for a good amplifier to connect my tension load cell to, and it seems that SparkFun’s HX711 amplifier is one of the best on the market. However, all of the project examples done with the HX711 are using compressive load cells. Can the amplifier also work in combination with an s-type tension load cell? If so, would it work in the same way, or are circuit alterations needed? And if not, would you have any recommendations as to what could be used instead?

Yes, it will work.

Electrically compression and tension load cells are the same, it’s just how they are mechanically constructed that’s different.

A given S-beam cell can often used in both tension and compression, depending on application.
