Charging circuit limit

Hi,

Is there a way to increase the temp at where the circuit stop Charging? I have an rtk express and a facet that only charges continuously In a room with AC. WHEN I charge them at room temperature, it cuts the charge a lot.

Thanks.

The same thing happened to me a while ago.

I had to charge in a room with air conditioning in summer, otherwise it would not charge my Facet.

The load cut off temperature is relatively low, around 40 degrees Celsius I think.

I think it is a hardware issue and cannot be changed by software.

Something to fix in the future.

Sorry! The charge circuit cutoff is designed to cut off before the LiPo can be harmed (no charging when hot). It’s required to be compliant for CE certifications and LiPo protections are generally ‘a good thing’. The on board thermistor is +/-5%, the resistors are +/- 1%. You may have a unit that’s an unlucky combination of tolerances, driving the cutoff temp down. If it’s preventing you from getting work done, I’m happy to have one of our techs have a look and swap components.

If you really want to get in there, you could swap out R30 (150k) to change the cut-off temp. (Yay for open source hardware!) It’s 0603 components and not hard, you just need an iron.

Hi sparky,

Thanks for your explanation, that’s what i thought. I would really like to have it fix by you, by if you remember me i’m in MX so things are a lil bit complicated. The only downside is that since the units charges in intervals it takes longer. i have 2 questions.

In the express unit , while is connected and on, the unit stops receiving power because of this ? I mean , can I have the units shutdown even it’s connected to a power sourcer and emitting corrections? Or the cut off only affects when it charges the battery.

Another question. I always connect the antenna to the express before turning on, just to be safe. Is this necessary? Sometimes I only turn on to download Rinex or make some adjustments.

Thanks in advance.

If an RTK device is connected to wall power (or a USB battery bank, etc) , the battery will charge until it is full, or if the thermal cutoff stops charging. Once the themperature drops below the threshold, it will continue charging (until the battery is full). If a device is actively running while it’s connected to power, it will continue to run until the battery is empty or a user turns the device off.

Don’t worry about connecting the antenna before you turn the unit on; it is perfectly safe to use the unit with or without an antenna. You just won’t get much reception with one
