Facet: battery does not charge and green light comes on sometimes.

Hello, I have a Facet with version 2.6 for several months and I am very satisfied.

Today I connected it to the PC with Teraterm and it connected fine as always, but when looking at the data it said that the battery was discharging and it had 50% left.

Very rare.

I connected it to the wall charger and the green light did not come on despite lack of charge.

It never happened to me.

Change cable and charger and the same.

After a while I connected it to the PC and the green light turned on.

Later the same, the green light goes off without completing the charge.

The only thing I can contribute is that these days in my area it has been more than 30 degrees Celsius.

I appreciate any ideas.

Can high ambient temperatures be a problem?

The Facet has a charge cutoff due to temperature and if the ambient temperature is close to cutoff I assume that it can prevent charging.

In my area it has exceeded 30 degrees Celsius and I assume that inside the Facet there may be more.

I’ll try at night when the temperature drops.

There is a thermistor (temperature sensor) that will prevent charging if the detected temperature is above ~42C. 30C should be ok. Please let us know if you continue to have problems.

Hello, thanks to Sparky I update the situation

Tried to charge the Facet at night in an air conditioned room and it charged until the led went off and was at 100%.

Could it be that the temperature sensor is cutting before?

I keep updating the information in the coming days.

Cheers

Tried to charge the Facet at night in an air conditioned room and it charged until the led went off and was at 100%.

Glad to hear it’s working!

Could it be that the temperature sensor is cutting before?

Yes, that seems to be the case. Please monitor it and let me know. Please note that the inside of the enclosure can get warmer when the ESP32 and ZED-F9P have been running. For example, if it is warm weather, and the device has been used for a long period of time, the charger will prevent the battery from charging until the entire device cools below ~40C.

Thanks again Sparky. A suggestion to improve.

Suddenly putting a led that changes color depending on the stored charge would be better than a led that turns off and it is not known if it turned off due to temperature or to complete the charge or that the cable is broken.

Always with the intention of improving a great team.

Hug

Thanks amlago! We’ll consider it.

Update 04/12/2022

These days the temperature has dropped to 25 degrees Celsius and I have never had problems with charging.

Almost certainly the problems were due to high temperatures and many hours of work.

I keep reporting.

Excellent, thank you for the feedback!

That’s a great idea. I’d like an LED to know it’s connected to power properly even if it isn’t charging. I set my base with an external battery for long days, so knowing the external power is connected is useful.
