Cheap ICs?

huh? mouser has numerous 805 180pfs in single quantities - murata, avx, kemet. My search turned up literally 100s of hits (26 pages of results).

You haven’t really done your research - even after several of us have given you explicit pointers. I think BigLez was right…

search mouser for “180pf 0805 x7r” for 3 pages of “not in stock” and “9 weeks lead time”

if you’re not interested in the subject then why are you posting?

I am interested in the subject, didn’t say I wasn’t. But I think you have an axe to grind.

Hey thanks. 4uconnector is an extremely useful site. I think there must be some Chinese language equivalent of Mouser and Digikey too that would offer better prices. I sent my friend in Beijing a note to see what she can find out.

For you skeptics, actually this is a more important question than you might think. Sure the difference is only a few bucks on small orders, but those bucks add up. Sites like www.es.co.th are giving the US 1000 unit price on single units, and discounting from that on orders of 50 and 100. So the savings really add up.

Also I have noticed that certain parts are completely unavailable in small quantities in the US. For example I needed 100 pieces of 180pF 0805 capacitor the other day. Digikey? Mouser? Full reels of 4000 only. I bought them in Bangkok instead. My 100 units cost less than a dollar.

You apparently are not good at searching. Digi-Key part number 399-1126-1-ND is a part that matches your description that sells for 10/$0.78. Mouser part number 77-VJ08A50V181J is another part that matches your description that sells for 1/$0.18. Both distributors had many others that matched your description - these are just examples. Both are in stock.

I guess you are addressing this to me. But I am not the original poster.

I gave the example of some capacitors I could not find in X7R in small quantities. This was just an example of there being a divergence between what might be available from US distributors and distributors in other locations. It is undeniable that there are differences in volume discounts.

And no I do not need any more “help” locating capacitors. It was just an example. Perhaps not the best example, because, as you point out, there are capacitors in that size and value available just not X7R.

I don’t have any axe to grind. I just didn’t understand why people were disparaging the OP when in fact he was looking for something that made perfect sense to me. At quantities less than full reels there are big pricing differences between different online retailers, and it makes sense to start a thread asking about alternate sources, especially those that might be located in Asia.

For a recent prototype I had to order 600 dollars worth of parts from Digikey. 55 dollars for international shipping and 10% Thai customs fees added another 115 dollars. If I could have ordered those parts from an Asian online retailer there would have been considerable savings for me - no customs fees and cheaper shipping.

(Before anyone gets started telling me about RS online and Farnell, let me just add that I wouldn’t have saved anything by ordering from either of those sources because their prices are absolutely outrageous.)

That’s why I thought the thread stating that “The OP is wasting our time, let’s move on…” and later threads agreeing with this sentiment were uncalled for.

I don’t see much outrageous for small orders of SMT parts from Farnell. The generic capacitors I recently got from them in lots of 100 (0603, X7R, an assortment of values 10pF to 0.1uF) were generally from under a penny each to maybe 2p each - but you saw at the same time some of the same from a different manufacturer for 20p each! There’s actually quite a spread of prices within what Farnell stock depending on the original manufacturer.

I’d agree that RS prices are outrageous, though… when looking for CPLDs they were at least twice as expensive as anywhere else. Basically, it pays to shop around, and these days this can mean shop around in another country, and even (heaven forbid) fleabay, where I’ve often picked up inexpensive generic parts like crystals and the like.
