Cheap Open Source Spectrometer Kits!

I recently read an article highlighting a professor promoting an open source piece of software that can read spectrographs made using a very cheap set of equipment meant for classrooms.

I’ve been following SparkFun’s blog for awhile now and figured you guys would be all over something like this.

So, maybe a quick, cheap kit that has a tiny breakout board with the LED and battery, the linear diffraction grating, glass vial(s) (1-2) and a printed copy of the base-plate (and maybe some Styrofoam to tuck under the folded section)? Don’t necessarily need a copy of the software, but maybe put the http location on the base-plate printout?

Then a more advanced kit that has a CCD and such on an Arduino shield, so serious people can skip the step of using a standard digital camera and importing the JPEG?
