Connecting to Artemis with MacOS

This is probably a simple one. New macbook - freshly installed arduino IDE and two brand new Artemis Redboards.
When I plug them in the macbook initializes the port. The redboard artemis’s start flashing the blue light and the green power light is solid. I can switch the port i’m plugged into on the macbook and the port will change (/dev/cu.usbserial-10, /dev/cu.usbserial-210, /dev/cu.usbserial-3, /dev/cu.usbserial-110) in the arduino ide port selection box.
But I can not communicate with the arduinos. I try to upload blink and I get…

Artemis SVL Bootloader
Target failed to enter bootload mode. Verify the right COM port is selected and that your board has the SVL bootloader.

If I use the Ambiq Bootloader I can see it try to upload three times and then fail…

Connecting over serial port /dev/cu.usbserial-10…
Fail
Fail
Fail
Tries = 3
Upload failed

Ive adjusted the baud rate to every possible combination, I’ve restarted the computer. I’ve tried several different cables.

There must be some simple setting I am missing to be able to upload to these little devices…

In the Arduino IDE tools menu, try the “ambiq secure uploader” instead of SVL and see what happens

Same thing with just a little more verbosity:

Connecting over serial port /dev/cu.usbserial-10…
Fail
Fail

Tries = 3
Upload failed
