Defective ESP32 IoT RedBoard?

Purchased a ESP30 IoT Redboard about two weeks ago and just started trying to use it starting with the Blink sketch (just the bare board). The board will not connect to the Arudino IDE and when plugged in no new COM port shows up in the device list. The correct drivers are installed and attaching a Serial Basic Breakout - CH340G does create a new COM port. Am I missing something or is the board or CH340G chip defective?

I have done the driver install as indicated in the Sparkfun hook-up guide, and have confirmed that the CH340 version 3.4.2014.8 is installed, but still no luck with the Redboard. The CH340 serial breakout does connect properly and uses the 3.4.2014.8 driver. (Actually have tested this on two separate computers one running Windows 10 and the other Windows 11.)
