Defective LG290P & IM19 IMU board?

We’re building a test rig and recently ordered (#000219718) the SparkPNT GNSS Flex Module - LG290P & IM19 IMU (SKU GPS-29469), along with the other versions for the mosaic-G5 P3 and ZED-X20P. Unfortunately it looks like the LG290P module has an intermittent short or other issue as the module spews ERRORs during configuration unless a corner of the LG290P module is pressed down (onto the PCB). We’ve reset the configuration and confirmed with Quectel that is not a known issue with the firmware. Comms with the IM19 module appear normal, as with all the other GNSS boards.

Is there anything else we should try?

What’s the process for getting this back to SF for evaluation and/or possible swap?

Thanks!

Hi Brett (@brhackle ),

Are you plugging the Flex modules into one of our carrier boards or a carrier board of your own design? If you are certain a dry / intermittent joint on the Flex LG290P is causing the issue, then we’ll happily exchange that module. But, first, please explore if it could be the header on your carrier board which is causing the issue.

Thank you,
Paul

The product description says “This product requires a GNSS Flex carrier board and an external antenna.” Do you have the carrier board and antenna in your setup?

Thanks Paul.

Should have mentioned – we’re using SF Flex carrier board(s) for all of these, and swapped between several of them to ensure the behavior didn’t change. Also attached jumper wires directly to the connector pins.

Nothing obvious from visual inspection of all the connectors.

Discovering the behavior changed when pushing on one corner of the LG290P was the only real clue regarding the potential SMT short or cold solder joint under the module.

Thanks,
Brett

Thanks Brett (@brhackle ),
