I need a device to automatically and quickly open a 12 vdc circuit when amperage reaches 1 amp. And have it reset quickly to a closed circuit without operator intervention.
PTC resttable fuse. I have used these in a bunch of designs and have never had any issues with them.

In this educational toy I’m alternately powering various, small 12 vdc devices like LEDs, small motors, incandescent lamps, solenoids, etc. none of which draw more than 1 amp. Standard black cube plug in the wall adapters have been working perfectly but I don’t want to use anything that appears to be directly wired to a wall socket for the sake of worried parents. But the black cube adapters behave perfectly regarding short circuit protection. They will allow small sparks and indefinite shorts but do not over heat or time out.
