Disable RFID Tag Reader in Thermal Printer?

Hi,

I suspect, through initial research, that we are thoroughly boned, but if anyone could help, that would be great! (Heck, there might be a product waiting to be developed.)

We use a DuraLabel Pro printer at work. It is a custom version of a TSC TTP-345 thermal printer. They’ve customized it by adding an RFID reader and custom daughterboard that ensures you are using their extremely overpriced supplies that have an RFID tag behind the sticker.

A PDF of the FCC documents is located at http://www.industrialsafetysolution.com … belPro.pdf

I think it works thusly: The RFID module (a SkyeModule M1. (Page 44)) reads the tag and sends the info to the daughterboard (p. 42-43). I don’t know if the printer calculates the material usage or if the reader counts how many times the supply rotates. (I’m guessing the printer calculates it.) Eventually, the RFID gets locked out and you can’t use it.

We’ve rotated almost our entire stock of cores through both of the machines, so we’re about to replace the machine or engineer around it.

Does anyone have an idea about either A) bypassing the reader or B) programming new tags?

I would almost bet money that there’s no way to do either since the tags are probably keyed and virtually impossible to decipher.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!
