SO i bought a EB-85a and i hooked it up directly to my serial port on 5v. and i get nothing. I don’t receive errors when i open the software, but i also don’t receive data. running hyper terminal gives me some weired sets of characters every 5 seconds or so. Anyone know if this is becasue i don’t have a serial buffer. do i need to have the max232 chip for the 3v logic? or should me serial port be able to read it directly as it is?
Thank you anyone who can help!

You DEFINITELY need a max3232 for line level shifting.
You may have burnt out your EB-85A :/, as the RX pin doesn’t like the -9/+9V on the serial port.

the TTL on the eb-85a is 3.3v and 5v
I was under the impression the RS232c was up at ± 12V?
