Does Sparkfun offer an add-on that provides internet connectivity to a redboard

Hello,

I purchased a sparkfun tinker kit ([SparkFun Tinker KitKIT-14556) a few years ago.

Now I’d like to add bluetooth and wifi functionality to the board rather than purchasing a separate raspberry pi, but I don’t know if the arduino “redboards” that Sparkfun sells are capable of that.

Are there any wifi and/or bluetooth dongles, which will allow bluetooth devices to communicate with my redboard and allow connect the redboard itself to wifi or ethernet?

Thank you!](SparkFun Tinker Kit - KIT-18577 - SparkFun Electronics)

Hello sparknewbie,

Wifi: [WRL-13287

Bluetooth: We don’t carry a direct shield but we do have an assortment of products you could use to that have Bluetooth built-in: [Bluetooth. I would suggest using the following products for beginning to learn Bluetooth tech:

[WRL-12577

[WRL-12576

[WRL-12582

I hope this helps!](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12582)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12576)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12577)](https://www.sparkfun.com/categories/115)](SparkFun WiFi Shield - ESP8266 - WRL-13287 - SparkFun Electronics)

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for the quick reply!

Looking at these bluetooth modems, I don’t understand all the technical jargon outlining the basics of how they work. How would any of those three boards connect to my redboard?

Looking at the pictures of the wifi board on top of the redboard, is there a name for how it just sits on top of the redboard? What’s that type of physical connection called? I’ve seen lots of add-ons for arduinos before that look like that before.

Is it possible for both the wifi board and bluetooth modem to connect to my aruino at the same time?

Thank you!

Generically, that is called a daughterboard. For Arduinos and things with an Arduino form factor, they are called “shields”. Raspberry Pi calls them “hats”, and Beaglebone “capes”.

Very helpful info for a newbie like me

Thank you, Mike, for the clarification!
