Hi,
I’m getting 3 Eagle overlap errors while trying to route a line through a MCP23017ML. It’s a QFN package and I’m going through the center heat pad to connect some GND pins together (pin 11-13 + 6 are all GND so I made them go through the center). It seems like a reasonable thing to do, but it’s not exactly happy about it. I know that I can approve the errors, but wanted to check if I can do this or if I would be best to route those lines around the chip

Does the center heat pad have a ‘name’?
How about the line you are drawing?
If you are using a ground plane (which you should), there is no need to connect GNDs. Reiterating what skimask said, the heat pad should be named GND.

In those 3 seconds when I figured it out, I slapped myself a dozen times, stepped on my own toes, banged my head against block walls, laughed, cried, drank drain cleaner, chewed on ice, and a few other things
