I would like to see the fantastic EasyDriver v3 enhanced by bringing out the mode and enable pins to the board edge.
The enable pin would be great for cutting the power to the stepper when not required. Bringing out the mode pins would would allow for changing the step mode as required.
There is a v4 board in the works - I have schematic and layout done, and first prototype boards fabed. I just have to solder up a board and test it out, and then I can send the files to Spark to see if they want to use the updated design. (I don’t know why they wouldn’t.) All control pins are brought out to headers, but they have pull up/pull downs on them so you don’t have to connect to them if you don’t need to change them. The layout was tweaked slightly, but the v4 board has the identical footprint as the current v3 design. The big improvement? A way better current adjustment pot than the stupid tiny one that’s on the v3 design. Ugg.
There’s also a 5V LED to show that power is on. If there were a simple and easy way to make it able to use 5V or 3.3V logic, I’d like to change that before the board is finalized. Also, Spark always has really good suggestions for layout changes so some things may change before a final board is produced.
Sorry, thanks for the nudge. I got distracted with my EggBot Board (a UBW + two EasyDrivers all on the same board - see www.schmalzhaus.com/EBB) for MakerFair a couple weeks ago, and have not spent time on the ED v4 design. But the design is almost done, and I just have to finish up the BOM and send all things off to SparkFun, and hopefully they can begin building them soon. Others have been asking for it too - I will make it a priority in the next week to get the design finalized and into Spark’s capable hands.
